Drs Adam Kay and Suman Biswas (aka the Amateur Transplants) have created a parody of Tom Lehrer's comic song "The Elements" changing the lyrics to drugs instead. "The Elements" is in turn a parody of Gilbert & Sullivan's "I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major-General" from "The Pirates of Penzance", so this song has had quite some going over! Anyway, The Drugs Song has no official video so here's my attempt to bring this brilliant song into the visual medium! Enjoy!
If you enjoy this you may also like my videos for "Finals Countdown" and "A Letter To The Patient's GP Please, Angela".
P.S. Yes, I know Lithium is said twice; yes, I know some of these are synonyms; yes, I misspelled Pethidine. I should know better - I've seen it!
I would also like to point out I do not condone the use of recreational drugs. Please do not post comments saying how wonderful speed, etc. is. It's not; it ruins lives. ANY COMMENTS CONDONING THE USE OF RECREATIONAL DRUGS WILL BE DELETED.
Want to learn this song? The lyrics are below! Adam and Suman have too much free time for doctors...
There's aspirin, adrenaline and also aminophylline,
Amphetamine, adenosine, augmentin and rifampicin,
Amoxicillin, penicillin, heparin and warfarin,
And oestrogen, progestagen and Canesten and chloroquine.
There's bendroflumethiazide and also cyclophosphamide,
And metoclopramide, acetazolamide, tropicamide
Loperamide, amiloride and cyclizine and frusemide,
And if you're up the duff then you'd best avoid thalidomide.
There's lithium, fluoxetine and also amitriptyline,
Paroxetine, digoxin, GTN and azathioprine,
Miconazole, atenolol and also chloramphenicol,
And if you want to overdose, there's always paracetamol.
There's Night Nurse and there's phenytoin, Zirtek and diazepam
And lithium, temazepam, midazolam, clonazepam,
Testosterone, aldosterone, and Valium and insulin,
And lignocaine and Piriton and Ventolin and Ritalin.
There's cefuroxime, cefotaxime, cefalexin, cephedrine,
And metronidazole and ketoconazole, trimethoprim,
Erythromycin, gentamicin, macrolides, nifedipine,
And Actifed and Sudafed and Calpol with no sugar in.
There's phenelzine and hyoscine, ranitidine, cimetidine,
Potassium and calcium and ev'ry kind of vitamin,
And pethidine and methadone and speed, cocaine and heroin,
And cannabis and Prozac, morphine, alcohol and nicotine.
You must remember all these drugs, the names of which you've learned from me,
Or fu*k 'em all and get a job in orthopaedic surgery.

PharmedOut, a new project that educates physicians on how pharmaceutical companies influence prescribing, is previewing a timely video about Zyprexa (olanzapine), an antipsychotic drug approved by the FDA to treat
schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. In this video Shahram Ahari, a former pharmaceutical company representative, tells how he sold the
drug. Nearly a decade after its introduction, a drug once hailed as a breakthrough treatment is being assailed for its negative side effects.
Antipsychotic drugs are not risk-free, but doctors and patients have long complained that Zyprexa causes obesity and diabetes. This week, the New York Times reported that studies on the frequency of weight gain were underreported by the manufacturer. PharmedOut is an independent
physician-run project funded through the Attorney General Consumer and Prescriber Education grant program.

June 1995
Colombia's rural peasants are caught in a savage drugs war, forced to produce narcotics through economic despair. We investigate this deadly battle, with daring access to major and minor players and exclusive archive footage. Following the capture of the Cali cocaine 'cartel' leader, a retaliation bomb is detonated in Medellin. Removing Cali cartel leaders has done nothing to halt the drug trade. In Cali, 'Pepe', a drug trafficker, makes $4,000 a month while a slum family tells the tragic story of their cocaine-courier father. Focusing on the government's renewed fight against drugs under threat of US sanctions, we doc*ment the strong-arm tactics of both the army and guerrilla groups. Bloodstained bodies of 13 peasant growers are lined up at a military base - the army dismisses them as vermin. In the fields of a typical coca campesino, protected by guerrilla units, growers process their haul. Evidence of government fumigation of illicit crops which, in turn, encourages farmers to double their cultivation. The result is massive deforestation. Indigenous Indians have little hope in the escalating feud ravaging Colombia.

Ex-Pharma Sales Reps talks about manipulating doctors to sell more drugs.
In this video Gwen discusses some of the tactics used by some pharmaceutical sales reps to get doctors to prescribe their drugs.
This included tactics like minimizing harmful side effects to doctors, presenting statistics in a slanted way, accusing anyone that speaks out against psychiatric drugs as being a Scientologist, psychological profiling of doctors to best know how to convince them to prescribe your drugs, etc.
Gwen Olsen spent fifteen years as a pharmaceutical sales rep working for such healthcare giants as Johnson & Johnson, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Abbott Laboratories. She enjoyed a successful, fast-paced career until several conscious-altering experiences began awakening her to the dangers lurking in every American medicine cabinet. Her most poignant lessons, however, came as both victim and survivor of life-threatening adverse drug reactions. After leaving pharmaceutical sales in 2000, Gwen worked in the natural foods industry first as an Account Manager for Nature's Way, and then as a Regional Sales Manager for Gaia Herbs. She is currently a writer, speaker, and natural health consultant.
The United States health care system is killing Americans at an alarming rate, even though we spend over fifteen percent of the Gross National Product (GNP) on health care. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, our health care outcomes ranked only fifteenth among twenty-five industrialized nations worldwide. Adverse effects from prescription drugs have become the third-leading killer of Americans. Only heart disease and cancer claim more lives. We trust our doctors to inform us and our government to protect us from medical malfeasance that may put profits ahead of consumer health and safety. But the fine line walked by the FDA between the interests of the pharmaceutical manufacturers and the American public has continually been crossed. The result is the unleashing of an unprecedented number of lethal drugs on the U.S. market!
Gwen Olsen learned firsthand the danger that lurks in every American's medicine cabinet, working in the pharmaceutical industry. But her most poignant education would come as a victim and, ultimately, as a survivor.

The whole drug deal gone bad scene from the 1997 movie Boogie Nights.
Scene Backdrop: At this point in the film, Dirk, Reed and Todd are total strung out coke addicts looking to get the next 'score'. Todd(Thomas Jane) devises a plan to trick a local drug lord(Alfred Molina) into buying bogus coke to get money they desperately need to feed their addiction. Dirk and Reed go along with the plan and what ensues is, in my opinion, one of the most well crafted scenes in movie history.
*Since I keep getting comments on what the songs are in this scene, I'll just list them here:
1. Sister Christian - Night Ranger
2. Jesse's Girl - Rick Springfield
3. 99 Red Balloons(Luftballoons) - Nena

SUBSRIBE, SUBSRIBE, SUBSRIBE.
"Dance Hall Drug" by Boys Like Girls w/lyrics--
Grown up
She just turned 16
Stuck in the moment
Dead at the scene
And it's on tonight
This is the life that you wanted, right?
So turn off all the lights
Dressed up just like a movie star
At all the parties they'll know who you are
Wouldn't it be great, to be fashionably late?
So why don't you wait, till you're sedated
Don't it feel like something's not right in his kiss tonight?
Yeah what I'm saying is do you, do you want to lose it all?
Cause this is more than just a dance hall drug
You can't wait to fall in love
All I'm saying is do you, do you want to learn to fly?
Then you should pack it up and say goodbye
Cause when the push comes to the shove
It's just a dance hall drug
Step in and you can lock the door
The candles are lit and the clothes on the floor
You could take a chance on finding romance
Now you're holding hands
But he's got other plans
Tick-tock, the clock is turning red
The room won't stop spinning and thoughts in your head
And it's too late
You feel like you're making a big mistake
You should've waited
Don't it feel like something's not right in his kiss tonight?
Yeah what I'm saying is do you, do you want to lose it all?
Cause this is more than just a dance hall drug
You can't wait to fall in love
All I'm saying is do you, do you want to learn to fly?
Then you should pack it up and say goodbye
Cause when the push comes to the shove
It's just a dance hall drug
Just wait love
Show 'em what you're made of
Don't it feel like something's not right in his kiss tonight?
Do you, do you want to lose it all?
Cause this is more than just a dance hall drug
You can't wait to fall in love
All I'm saying is do you, do you want to learn to fly?
Then you should pack it up and say goodbye
Cause when the push comes to the shove
It's just a dance hall drug
Do you, do you want to lose it all?
Cause this is more than just a dance hall drug
You can't wait to fall in love

Drug Use and Mental Health; Target Audience Statement: Primary target audiences for this program will include law enforcement officials, drug prevention specialists, Drug-Free Communities Act grantees, administrators, school drug counselors, treatment providers, drug court members, policy makers, business leaders, coalition volunteers, drug demand reduction coordinators, criminal justice professionals, members of the religious community and other community partners who may be interested. This program is also suitable for Public Access television distribution. Program Summary And Objectives: "Millions of American today receive health care for mental or substance-use problems and illnesses. These conditions are the leading cause of combined disability and death of women and the second highest of men." "Improving the Quality of health Care for Mental and Substance-Use Conditions," Institute of Medicine Report, November 1, 2005; Studies are showing an alarming trend, incidents of mental illness related to drug use are on the rise. It's unclear what came first, did a predisposition to mental illness lead to drug use, or is it the other way around? No matter what, co-occurring disorders are a problem. Especially in the wake of this year's hurricanes and other disasters, mental health and substance abuse professionals need to be poised to provide additional care for those suffering serious mental trauma and who may turn to alcohol and drugs as a result. During this hour-long broadcast, hear from treatment providers about the delicate balance between treating a person's addiction and his or her mental illness. We'll also learn about the stigma attached to mental illness and how coalitions can help fight it. Hear from representatives of the American Psychiatric Association about the group's advocacy of comprehensive and non-discriminatory health insurance coverage of mental illness and substance abuse disorders. Learning Objectives: Define co-occurring disorders; Learn about the difficulty treating co-occurring disorders; Discover solutions to the problems both communities and patients face; See how community-based organizations can help improve the local climate to assist those in recovery from substance use disorders and mental health problems;

Not-so-impossible...
239,575 (1,893 Note Streak)
The very first Expert drums FC of The Perfect Drug. It's listed under the "Impossible" tier as the second most difficult song in the game.
This is probably the most complex drum chart I've seen to date. It throws everything at you but the kitchen sink. And the "window" of time given to play each note is very minuscule, meaning if I decided to loosen up my "feel" just a little...I'd instantly start missing notes.
There is a lot of diversity from one section to the next, but it makes it fun to play. I really like the syncopation at 1:29, but I usually have to hold my breath all the way through. Some of the note patterns begin on the second 16th note...so you basically have to be the master of space and time, lol. I also love the sequence at 3:33. It has some pretty neat drum n' bass parts that you almost never see in acoustic music.
Hey Harmonix...is that the best you got? lol jk

Ron Paul took an opportunity during the PBS Republican Presidential Debates, moderated by Tavis Smiley, to call for end to the Drug War.
"Prohibition didn't work and prohibition on drugs hasn't worked either."
Ron Paul cited the unfair disparity in the percentage of blacks imprisoned over drug offenses in proportion with the relative percentage of black drug users, giving example to the system's racial bias.
Paul also noted the money wasted on the so-called 'War on Drugs' since the 70s when it's clear that drug use and prison capacity has only swelled in wake of the profit driven motives of the "war."

Heroin Part 1 public domain video. Heroin: The Next Generation. Viewers will learn about the different types of heroin being peddled on the streets of America, how heroin affects the users and hear first person accounts about heroin use from former users. Find out how the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office broke a major heroin trafficking ring that was selling the drug to young people in the affluent suburb of Scottsdale, Arizona. What goes around comes around -- and Heroin is back! But the face of yesterday's junkie is not the face of the junkie of today. More young people than ever before are shooting it, snorting it — even smoking it. And they're getting more bang for their buck when buying their heroin on the streets today. One reason: The purity of this drug is the highest at the street level than it's ever been -- that means users don't have to use needles to inject the drug into their veins. The new ability to snort or smoke heroin is enticing more young people than ever before to give it a try. Back in the 60s and 70s, heroin users primarily injected the drug into their bloodstream. The next generation of heroin users do not have to use needles to get high on heroin. Smoking it or snorting it is more appealing to younger and first-time users by eliminating the fear of needles and syringe-associated diseases such as HIV, AIDS and hepatitis -- not to mention the stigma associated with the stereotypical "junkie" who "shoots up" the drug. Another reason heroin use is on the rise, according to James Hall, an epidemiologist for Up Front Drug Information Center in Miami, Florida is because prescription drug abuse is on the rise. "Young people who try prescription narcotic opiate drugs and like the effects of those drugs are turning to heroin because it packs a similar, yet more powerful punch than prescription narcotic opiates," Hall says. "That's why prescription drug abuse is becoming a stepping stone to first time heroin users." Program Objectives: This program discusses, among other things, the following: Learn about the different types of heroin being peddled on the streets of America. Learn how heroine affects the users. Hear first person accounts about heroin use from a former users. Explore heroin trafficking trends and methods of delivery of the drug into the U.S. Find out how the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office broke a major heroin trafficking ring that was selling the drug to young people in the affluent suburb of Scottsdale, Arizona. Panelists: TBA. Sponsors: This program is sponsored the Multijurisdictional Counterdrug Task Force Training (MCTFT) with the technical support of the Satellite Education Network (SEN) at Ft. Lee, VA.
