The Cosmic Lounge presents Deep House Music: 'Europa' by Agoria.
"Real Name: Sebastien Devaud
Profile: Influenced by Jazz and Detroit Techno, Sebastien Devaud, aka Agoria, is the latest in a long line of talented artists to emerge from the ever fertile French electronic scene. Agoria's style is minimalistic, ditry, subversive french electronica.
Starting off his career with a hectic DJing schedule playing at many international clubs alongside renowned artists such as Jeff Mills, DJ Hell, Kevin Saunderson, Carl Cox, Colin Dale, Joey Beltram, Ritchie Hawtin and Christian Vogel to name but a few, Agoria has become an important figure of the European techno scene, developing a unique groove and approach to the dancefloor.
With an opera singer parent, Agoria had been in a musical environment all his life when, in 1997, he fervently began to produce his own material. His fresh sound attracted a number of French independent labels such as UMF, Tekmics, Zebra 3 and A-Traction whilst being play-listed by the finest International DJs (Laurent Garnier, Dave Clarke, Sven Vath, Luke Slater and DJ Hell are among his supporters).
In 2000, he was the first DJ to be taken on by the prestigious FAIR, a French support fund for new acts, signing his first publishing contract with Peer Music the same year."

The Cosmic Lounge presents Deep House Music: 'People' by Dan Berkson.
"First and foremost a keyboard player, Dan was playing six nights a week in his hometown of Chicago by the age of 16. He entered the New England Conservatory of Music in 1993 and quickly immersed himself in the worlds of jazz, funk and soul. While at NEC, he studied with such jazz greats as Danilo Perez, Cecil Mcbee and George Russell. He co-founded The Daddys, a funk band which won numerous awards and gained a loyal fan base in the Boston area. He moved to London and currently lives there, producing deep and tech house while pursuing other bands and projects."

The Cosmic Lounge presents Deep House Music: 'With You' by Aqua Bassino.
"Edinburgh's Jason Robertson played bass for numerous jazz-funk bands before settling into the studio to focus on all things electronic. Settling on the Aqua Bassino moniker, he released his '96 debut EP, Swirl, on France's foremost electronic imprint, F Communications. Three more EPs followed (Deeper, Pools, and Waves) before Robertson released his '91 debut album, Beats 'n' Bobs. Skillfully blending elements of jazz, soul, and blues, the album features Scottish saxophonist Martin Kershaw, U.K. jazz singer of the year Niki King, and African diva Nahawa Doumbia, who has worked extensively with Frederic Galliano. "Baby C'Mon" was released as single in early '02 with remixes by deep house don Ron Trent and Detroit electro pioneer Soul Designer (Fabrice Lig). In his spare time, Robertson produces laid-back house and downtempo for Statra under his Jay Salino alias."

The Cosmic Lounge presents Deep House Music: Joey Negro's 'Club' mix of 'He Is' by The Sunburst Band.
"Veteran UK electronic producer Dave Lee (aka Joey Negro) is one of the few people who can glide effortlessly from the chilly depths of the 'underground' to the moneyfied glitz of commercial music, while keeping both his dignity and his wide-ranging fan-base intact. Having moved on recently from the cool ad-friendly, chill-out throb of his Jakatta moniker, Dave has embarked upon a series of production projects including developing and producing new electro- rockers The Like Me's due to release their first album at the end of this year. Alongside this, the ever prolific Mr Lee, has also regrouped with his supa- talented muso mates to form London's latest nu-funk and boogie hybrid, The Sunburst Band. With members culled from the funkiest ends of Incognito, Jamiroquai and the Kyoto Jazz Massive, The Sunburst Band is unashamedly musical."

The Cosmic Lounge presents Deep House Music: 'The Spot' by Franck Roger.
"DJ since 13 years now and producer since 7 years Franck Roger has fully understood that making music and spread
worldwide the House Music message is the most important thing in his life...
Indeed, Franck has multiplied the releases on labels as prestigious and well respected on the international scene as Kenlou (Kenny Dope and Louie Vega / USA) Versatile (Dj Gilb'r / France), Crash (Dino & Terry / Canada), Flowers (Japan), Needs (Germany), BBE (UK), Defected rds, Sole Channel, King Street,Especial (Japan), Spacekat (UK). Without a doubt Franck is the DJ & producer the most 'in view'.
Influenced by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Vince Montana, Mongo Santamaria and Blaze... Franck has developed a true quality house sound with many faces (house, deep, dubby, spiritual, broken and soulful house productions...)
By producing his first single, the Straight Up label (Playing For the City) opened the doors for their young protégé, to the Parisian deep house scene.
Since then Franck has worked closely with quality musicians such as Olivier M'selem (on keyboards) and more recently Gene Perez and Mike Ciro from Masters At Work and the multi talented singer, Chris Wonder, with whom he produces the majority of his songs.
With strong support from abroad (Little Louie Vega, Frankie Feliciano, DJ Spinna, Osunlade, Kerri Chandler, Dennis Ferrer and many more) Franck can prepare his future productions by exploring different horizons open to him and by collaborating with contemporary artists such as Alix Alvarez, Arnold Jarvis, Osunlade, DJ Spinna and for 2006 some collaborations with Mr V and Jovonn for Real Tone Records that is his own label since 2004 with his partner Lionel Marciano.
Franck released in February 2006 his new album featuring 12 new tracks on Seasons Records (USA) that's is already
licensed on P VINE rds for the Japan market and also in South Africa also followed with a world-wide tour in 2006 in USA , Europe and Japan and abroad in order to express, live, the love he holds for music, as he has previously done the world over (Paris, NYC, LA, Miami, London, Tokyo, Johannesburg... Many news and surprises are coming soon from this unstopable DJ & producer..."

They started working together in 1994, producing a hip-hop project called La Funk Mob. They started remixing tracks under the Cassius name in 1997, for acts such as Air and Daft Punk, before producing their own original works.

The Cosmic Lounge presents Deep House Music: 'Good Life' by Inner City.
"Inner City was formed in Detroit, Michigan in 1988 by producer Kevin Saunderson. He enlisted the talent of Chicago native Paris Grey to perform vocals for the tracks on what would become some of the most memorable club anthems all time, beginning with 1988's smash hit "Big Fun."
Inner City's debut album, also entitled "Big Fun" (Virgin Records, US) / "Paradise" (elsewhere) was released in 1989. The second single from the debut LP was the smash hit "Good Life," which has become one of Inner City's most memorable tracks gaining major airplay on MTV and peaking at #4 on the UK charts. The debut album also spawned a few other club hits such as "Do You Love What You Feel" and "Ain't Nobody Better."
Kevin Saunderson went on to release three more albums under the Inner City name: 1990's "Fire," 1992's "Praise," and 1993's "Testament," which all yielded successful singles but could not match the chart-topping "Big Fun" and "Good Life."

The Cosmic Lounge presents Deep House Music: 'Shake Your Head' by Was (Not Was).
"Was (Not Was) is an eccentric pop group founded by David Weiss (a.k.a. David Was) and Don Fagenson (a.k.a. Don Was). (Don Was is also a famous producer, who has worked with The B-52's, Rolling Stones and many other artists.)
Weiss and Fagenson were childhood friends who grew up together in suburban Detroit. Due largely to Fagenson's poverty, they decided to form Was (Not Was) in 1979. The name of the band was derived from Fagenson's son, who enjoyed contradicting words such as 'Blue' with 'Not Blue'. Their first recording was "Wheel Me Out", a 12-inch dance record for the avant-garde Ze Records.
Their first album 'Was (Not Was)' (1981) was an amalgam of rock, disco, Weiss's beat poetry, Reagan-era commentary and jazz. On vocals they recruited Harry Bowens and "Sweet Pea" Atkinson, who proved to be distinctive, very soulful front-men, who frequently found themselves singing absurd, surreal songs alongside tender ballads. The MC5's Wayne Kramer (guitar) and The Knack's Doug Feiger (vocal) were guest players.
Born to Laugh at Tornadoes (1983) introduced even more guest musicians, including Ozzy Osbourne rapping over electro, Mel Torme crooning an oddly beautiful ballad and an abstract funk piece "Man Vs the Empire Brain Building". The band were shortly dropped from their record label.
In 1987, they found their biggest hit with the album What Up, Dog?, along with the singles "Walk The Dinosaur" and "Spy in the House of Love". Special guests include Stevie Salas, John Patitucci, Frank Sinatra Jr. and a writing credit for Elvis Costello. About this time, the Was Brothers developed separate careers as producers, film scorers and music supervisors.
They followed up with Are You Okay? in 1990, a critically lauded album, spearheaded by a cover of Papa Was a Rolling Stone. Guest musicians were Iggy Pop, Leonard Cohen, The Roches and Syd Straw. After a tour with Dire Straits in 1992 and a Dance Hit Single "Shake Your Head", Weiss and Fagenson drifted apart and nothing was heard from Was (Not Was) but a compilation album Hello Dad... I'm In jail. Around this time, artist/animator Christoph Simon created videos to accompany some of their songs, such as "What Up Dog", "Dad I'm In Jail" and the Tom Waits-style "Earth to Doris". These have appeared on MTV's Liquid Television.
In 1997, Steve Winwood released a tune which borrowed not just the title of Was (Not Was)'s single "Spy In the House of Love" but also the bass line and other elements. However, no lawsuits ensued (or were settled out of court.)
In late 2004, Was (Not Was) re-formed and were back on stage for a two-month club tour through the Northeast and East Coast of the US, as well as California, Missouri, Ohio, Illinois (including stops at the House of Blues in Cleveland and Chicago), Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania (in the Trocadero in Philadelphia).
In October 2005, they played four gigs at the Jazz Café in London.
Detroit's Metro Times has described the band as "an endearing mess... ...a sausage factory of funk, rock, jazz and electronic dance music, all providing a boogie-down backdrop for a radical (and witty) political message of unbridled personal freedom and skepticism of authority."
The band has announced they will be releasing a new studio album, Boo!, which includes many songs originally recorded in the 80's."
